Although everyone should be able to use a washroom when they have to, sometimes the condition of a washroom is not up to hygiene standards. This can put off your visitors, customers, clients, and even employees. Therefore, you have to maintain your workplace washrooms and keep them clean.

One of the most effective washroom consumables to keep your workplace washroom clean is toilet seat sanitisers.

So, it is well-known that people are afraid of using public toilet seats. But, have you ever wondered what diseases you can really get and how?

Every time someone flushes a toilet, water drops and some components are sprayed up. This means that together with water drops from the toilet, different bacteria, viruses and germs are sprayed too and all those together contaminate the toilet seat.

Based on this information, it can be said that people who are afraid of using public washrooms and toilets have a good reason for that. Here are some of the germs that users catch by sitting on contaminated public toilets:

Shigella bacteria – This bacteria is transmitted easily among people, most often through infected food but also through contaminated toilet seats. The disease that this bacteria causes is called shigellosis. If you have never heard of this one, then you have probably heard of one of its infections – dysentery. This infection causes diarrhea and cramps in the abdominal area.

Streptococcus – A very common bacteria which is usually found in your throat where it causes problems. However, it can also cause some skin infections, such as rash.

Escherichia coli – The dreaded E.coli is a fecal bacteria and if you are exposed to it you could suffer from diarrhea, vomiting and abdominal pain. The news about possible E. coli outbreaks is not taken lightly. Since it is a bacteria found in our intestines, it is very possible to be exposed to it when using a public toilet.

The norovirus – It is a gastrointestinal virus whose symptoms are very similar to the ones caused by E. coli. It can be easily transmitted from person to person and it is found on contaminated surfaces, most often toilet seats.

Staphylococcus – This bacteria can contaminate and stay on different surfaces (e.g.toilet seats) for more than two months and it takes only a few seconds to be transmitted to your skin. It can cause boils, impetigo as well as toxic shock syndrome. However, the possibility of getting these bacteria from a public toilet is very low.

Sexually Transmitted Diseases (STDs) – The worst nightmare of many people. It is possible to get an STD by sitting on a toilet seat, but luckily it is very unlikely. In order to be safe, you just have to follow the basic hygienic rules – hand washing for example.

Influenza (Flu) – Believe it or not, it is possible to get the flu after sitting on a toilet seat. What you need to do in order to protect yourself is:

  • wash your hands right after you’ve used the toilet
  • do not touch your eyes, nose or mouth after you touched the toilet seat

Good news is that, although it is possible to find these germs in a public washroom they are not very likely to cause serious problems. It happens very rarely.

Nevertheless, if you keep a washroom clean and well-maintained, you do not have to worry about your customers, clients or guests. There is no room for any disease nor bacteria on a clean toilet..

It is always placed somewhere near the toilet paper dispenser. With just one button pressing you get the appropriate amount of sanitizer which you put on a piece of toilet paper and then wipe the toilet seat.

Having a toilet seat sanitizer in a public washroom can really help you to provide both your visitors and staff a pleasant and safe experience. Whatsmore, it shows your interest in people’s general health and safety. By using a toilet seat sanitizer chances of catching anything harmful are at the lowest level.
